Installing BeanConnect

Before you can install BeanConnect, you must first install JDK and openUTM.

The BeanConnect installation program performs the following tasks:

  • It installs the Common Resources, that are the common parts such as archives, libraries, etc.

  • It installs the BeanConnect proxy container and the MC-CmdHandler

  • It installs the BeanConnect Management Console including the command line interface MC-CLI

Start the installation program <DVD_drive>\BeanConnect.msi with administrative permissions e.g.: msiexec /i <DVD_drive>\BeanConnect.msi

Then the Welcome dialog box opens. You can navigate through the sequence of dialog boxes that are now displayed by clicking Next > and < Back.

If you want to update an existing installation, you find detailed information in section Update installation for the BeanConnect proxy container and Management Console.

Steps during a new installation

Installation BeanConnect Common Resources

For a new installation, you must install the Common Resources first.

Start the installation program and click the item Next in the dialog box Welcome.

  1. Installation Option dialog box
    Select the item Common Resources to install the Common Resources
  2. Target BeanConnect Common Resources Directory to install dialog box 

    Specify the home directory in which the BeanConnect common resources should be installed. 
    Default: C:\BeanConnect\BC$(versionL).

  3. BeanConnect Common Resources Program Group dialog box

    Select the program group in which you want the installation program to save the BeanConnect icons for the common resources. You can either select an existing program group or create a new one.

    By default, the installation program creates the program group:
    Fujitsu Software BeanConnect 64-Bit $(versionVDotL)
    Choose whether the program group shall have access rights for all users or only for the current user.

  4. Final Confirmation dialog box
    Click Next to perform the installation.

Installation BeanConnect Proxy Container

If you need a proxy container on this host, you may install it as follows:

Start the installation program and click the item Next in the dialog box Welcome.

  1. Installation Option dialog box
    Select the item Proxy Container: normal installation to install the proxy container.
  2. openUTM Directory dialog box$(versionL)

    Specify the openUTM home directory which contains the ex\libwork.dll file.

  3. JAVA Directory dialog box
    Specify the JAVA home directory. This is the directory on your system that contains the JDK file bin\java.exe.

  4. Target BeanConnect Common Resources Directory to install dialog box
    Specify the BeanConnect home directory in which the BeanConnect common resources are installed.
    Default: C:\BeanConnect\BC.
  5. Proxy Container Options dialog box
    • Name for Proxy Container
      The name must be unique in your system. The name can have a maximum length of eight characters. The following characters are permitted: A,...,Z, a,...,z, 0,...,9.
      Default: BCCont

    • Begin of port interval for Proxy Container
      BeanConnect needs a range of 100 port numbers. You are asked to enter the port number which specifies the beginning of this range.
      The range of port numbers must not be used by other proxy containers or other applications.
      Specify the start value of the port number range. The next hundred port numbers are reserved for BeanConnect. Values between 1025 and 65436 are permitted.
      Default: 31000

    • Password for Proxy Container
      Specify the admin password.
      Default: beanconnectadmin

  6. Target Proxy Container Directory to install dialog box
    Specify the proxy container home directory in which the proxy container has to be installed.
    By default, the proxy container is installed in the BeanConnect home directory <BC_home>\<proxy_cont_name>.
  7. Proxy Container Program Group dialog box
    Select the program group in which you want the installation program to save the BeanConnect icons for the proxy container. You can either select a program group that is already present or create a new program group.
    By default, the installation program creates the program group:
    Fujitsu Software BeanConnect 64-Bit $(versionVDotL)\<proxy_cont_name>
    Choose whether the program group shall have access rights for all users or only for the current user.
  8. Permit ports through the windows firewall dialog box
    Selection of this option causes the installation program to enable the ports used to operate the Management Console command handler (MC-CmdHandler) for the use of the firewall.
  9. Final Confirmation dialog box
    Click Next to perform the installation

In some Windows configurations, the proxy container installation cannot automatically install the service. In this case you can install it manually afterwards.

Please proceed as follows:

  • Start a command windows as an administrator.
  • Switch to the home directory of the proxy container
  • Call .\UninstSrv.cmd to deinstall the service for the proxy container
  • Check the result of the deinstallation process by evaluating the log file as follows:
    • cd %TEMP%
    • Edit the log file with the following command: notepad BC$(version)-UninstSrv.out
    • After a successful deinstallation of a proxy container service, the content looks like this:

Now you can start with the installation of the service

  • Switch to the home directory of the proxy container
  • Call .\InstallSrv.cmd to install the service for the proxy container
  • Check the result of the installation process by evaluating te log file as follows:
    • cd %TEMP%
    • Edit the log file with the following command: notepad BC$(version)-InstallSrv.out
    • After a successful installation of a proxy container service, the content looks like this:

  • If you want to start the service for the proxy container in the CMD mode, you may specify the following command in the cmd windows as an administrator: 
    net start "BeanConnect$(version) 64-Bit BCCONT

Check whether you can connect to the proxy container, e.g. using the BeanConnect Management Console

Installation BeanConnect Management Console

If you need a management console on this host, you may install it as follows:

Start the installation program and click the item Next in the dialog box Welcome.

  1. Installation Option dialog box
    Select the item Management Console: normal installation to install the management console.
  2. JAVA Directory dialog box

    Specify the JAVA home directory. This is the directory on your system that contains the JDK files lib\tools.jar and bin\java.exe.

  3. Target BeanConnect Common Resources Directory to install dialog box
    Specify the BeanConnect home directory in which the BeanConnect common resources are installed.
    Default: C:\BeanConnect\BC.
  4. Target BeanConnect Management Console Directory to install dialog box
    Specify the Management Console home directory in which the Management Console has to be installed.

    By default, the Management Console is installed in the Management Console home directory <BC_home>\Console.

  5. BeanConnect Management Console Program Group dialog box
    Select the program group in which you want the installation program to save the BeanConnect icons for the Management Console. You can either select a program group that is already present or create a new program group.

    By default, the installation program creates the program group:
    Fujitsu Software BeanConnect 64-Bit $(versionVDotL)\Management Console
    Choose whether the program group shall have access rights for all users or only for the current user.

  6. Final Confirmation dialog box
    Click Next to perform the installation
