Deleting archive entries

The following applies to MARENADM statements when deleting catalog entries for the virtual tapes of the virtual archive system:

• REMOVE-USER-VOLUMES

  Since virtual tapes cannot be removed, this statement results in the rejection message MARM015 for the tapes concerned.

• REMOVE-FREE-VOLUMES

  The archive system’s free tapes can be removed from the MAREN catalog using this statement.

• DELETE-VOLUME-ENTRY

  This statement deletes MAREN catalog entries for tapes without any checks. The statement is intended for repair use only. If the corresponding tapes are still located in the archive system, there will be discrepancies between the MAREN catalog and the archive system.
  The exception is WORM tapes. In case active protection period has not been expired yet, deletion of the corresponding MAREN catalog entries will be rejected. This allows to avoid discrepancies between the MAREN catalog and the archive system if the protection period was defined correctly when adding the WORM tape to MAREN catalog.
