A tape type (volume type) can be defined freely in MAREN.
System operations such as tape initialization and automatic free tape allocation are, however, restricted to the area supported by BS2000. MAREN supports tape operation for all volume types offered by BS2000.
A tape of a volume type can only be processed on tape devices with a compatible device type.
The volume types and device types supported (depending on the BS2000 version) are listed in the manual “System Installation” [6].
MAREN supports the volume types used by all device types returned by BS2000 when MARENUCP or MARENADM is started.
When the I/O configuration is changed dynamically, a new device type may need to be included in the system-specific MAREN parameters using the MARENADM statement MODIFY-MAREN-PARAMETERS RESERVE-DEVICE-TYPES.
