Locations for archive systems

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

A separate location must be defined for each archive system for the archive systems to be supported by MAREN. That means:

  • The archive system must be defined on all systems to which it is connected using the LOCATION-ENTRIES= operand in the MODIFY-MAREN-PARAMETERS statement. The archive system must be set up as the local location with the correct operating mode.

  • All tapes in the archive system must be contained in the MAREN catalog with that location as their HOME-LOCATION, FREE- LOCATION and TEMP-LOCATION.

  • The tape’s archive number and its bar code must be the same in the archive system. If the archive number differs from the bar code, then the tape should be given the proper bar code. If the VSN and the bar code are contained in the MAREN catalog, then it is also possible to modify the VSN to match the bar code. This has the same effect as reinitializing the volume with the following statement:

    //INITIALIZE-VOLUMES *NONE(VOL=<barcode_vsn>,OLD-VSN=<current_vsn>)

If several archive systems are used, each has to have its own location name.

In contrast to tapes that are mounted manually, the name of the system is not entered in the TEMP-LOCATION field for the tapes in an archive system.
