Entering tapes
The tapes in the archive system are entered in the database. In the MAREN catalog, the database has to be mapped with the archive system’s location using the appropriate MAREN statements for tape entry.
Removing tapes
Tapes that are exported by the archive system have to be reported to MAREN. Depending on the VOLUME-STATUS and the type of export, the catalog entry is either deleted (EXPORT-VOLUME for tapes from a remote data center) or it is relocated (TEMP-LOCATION=CENTRAL).
Importing tapes
Tapes can be imported into the archive system via the import/export unit. When the archive system finds new tapes in the input/output unit, it adds them to the its inventory and informs the system via ROBAR. ROBAR then updates the location of the new tapes in the MAREN catalog.
MAREN does not update the location of tapes that are not included in the catalog.
Relocating tapes
Tapes can be exported from the archive system via the import/export unit. If MAREN is used, they have to be exported using a MAREN statement which causes the location to be changed (export or location modification in the catalog entry).
If MAREN is not used, a tape export can be requested at the ROBAR console.
While the tape is exported from the archive system, it is flagged as not available or it is deleted from the archive record (archive system database).
