AVAS

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

MAREN can be linked to the AVAS software products (see the “AVAS” manual [4]) by means of the MARENAV module. This module is connected to AVAS via the system exits used for SUBMIT-NET processing and calls MAREN as a subprogram. For each network to be released, AVAS sends the procedure or ENTER files of all jobs to MARENAV for analysis. On the basis of the DMS commands they contain, MARENAV determines the archive numbers of the tapes required by the network.

It then carries out the following actions:

  • Execution of tape checks.

MARENAV checks whether all the tapes required by the network are available, i.e. whether their archive number is in the MAREN catalog and the tapes are reserved.

  • Entering archive numbers in the procedure or ENTER files.

The dummy input and output tapes entered in the DMS commands are replaced with actual archive numbers.

  • Creation of tape lists.

MARENAV generates three files for each network:

    1. Transport list, which is used to compile the set of tapes accessed in a network and, if necessary, transport it to the system.

    2. Tape mounting list for the operator, which indicates which tapes are required in which order when the individual jobs of a network are run.

    3. Storage procedure for the archive. This procedure file updates the locations in the MAREN catalog entry for all volumes required by a network.

MARENAV is not an installation component of MAREN but is supplied with the software product AVAS.
