Working with MAREN for the MAREN user

The sections below describe working with MAREN for the nonprivileged MAREN user.

The MAREN functions described in these sections can be called using the statements of the MAREN user program which are mentioned.

Before tapes can be reserved and used by MAREN users, they must be entered in the MAREN catalog as free tapes by the MAREN administrator. If they have already been written or come from a remote data center, they are added as reserved tapes. In both cases the tapes’ attributes are entered in the catalog entry fields.

Initializing tapes for initial use is the task of the MAREN administrator. This is described in the “MAREN System Administrator Guide” [1].
