Reserving free tapes

Free tapes can be reserved either explicitly using the MAREN or MARENADM statement RESERVE-FREE-VOLUME or implicitly using automatic free tape allocation with MARENUCP, see the “MAREN User Guide” [1].

Automatic free tape allocation can be controlled using MAREN exits.

The reservation of free tapes according to locations with specific features (user ID, job name, file name, etc.) can also be influenced via a reservation file (see the section “Location management via a reservation file”).
