Copying and pasting screen data

&pagelevel(4)&pagelevel

Copying and pasting data relates to the data in the session window. The data in the session window is referred to as screen data in the following description. The functions provided by the Edit menu allow you to select either all or a part of the screen of the active session window data and then to copy and paste it.

Copying screen data

Screen data can be completely or partially copied to one of the following destinations:

  • Clipboard
  • File
  • Printer

Copying screen data is only possible if you have first selected an area of the screen in the active session window.

Invisible and non-printable text (e.g. a password) is still invisible after copying, thus guaranteeing data security. Note also that only the characters themselves are copied, not their attributes (e.g. underline/bold), and not all BS2000 characters can be displayed.

When copying to a file, note that:
The name of the destination file should be a permitted DOS file name with the file extension .DMP.
.DMP files can be opened in text editors such as Notepad or Notepad++.

You can either copy all screen data or just parts of it.

Partial copying of a session transfer's contents

  1. Using the mouse, select the area within the active session window you want to copy. If you are not using a mouse:

    >

Use [Shift] + cursor key or the Mark option in the Edit menu to switch to marking mode.

    >

Use the cursor keys to specify the beginning of the area to be copied.

    >

Hold down the [Shift] key and use the cursor keys to mark the area to be copied.

  2. Select Copy in the Edit menu. This step can be skipped as the data is copied to clipboard automatically once the selection is finished.
  3. Select the destination for the copied data (clipboard, file or printer).

Full copying of the session transfer's contents

  1. If you have opened several sessions, select the session whose data is to be copied.

  2. Select Select All in the Edit menu.

  3. Select Copy in the Edit menu.

  4. Select the destination for the copied data (clipboard, file or printer):

Select All allows you to select all the data that is displayed in the currently active MT9750 window (except for the BS2000 status bar).

Pasting screen data

Data can be pasted from the clipboard or from a file:

  1. Move the cursor to the position of the active session window from which you want to paste the data.

  2. Select Paste in the Edit menu.

  3. Select the source of the data to be pasted in the overlapping Paste menu.

Data cannot be pasted into protected fields. If you try to do this, ERR appears in the 9750 status bar.
