Using the transparent mode

  • If the character set of file names is restricted to ISO8859-1, and if appropriate code settings are also used on the computers (e.g. LANG=de_DE on Unix and CP1252 on Windows), transparent mode is recommended. If the character set is restricted to a code variant of ISO8859 (e.g. ISO8859-7 with Greek characters) for an application of the openFT product, it is then possible to work with transparent mode.

  • As long as there are no problems with the character presentation of file names (e.g. due to the expansion to additional language areas), it is recommended to retain transparent mode in existing applications of openFT.

If instances from several language areas are coupled with each other in an application of openFT, which in each case use national code settings (e.g. ISO8859-1 and ISO8859-7), the character presentation of file names may vary if transparent mode is used.
