BCAM distinguishes between the following route types on the basis of the connection type and accessibility within the network. The distinction is made in the PATH operand:

  1. LAN node route

A LAN node route is used to access an end system which is directly connected to a LAN.
    Defined by: ,PATH=*NODE(...)

  2. Router route

A router route is used to access a remote end system whose L3 protocol corresponds to that of the router.
    Defined by: ,PATH=*VIA-ROUTER(...)

  3. Tunnel route

A tunnel route is used to access a remote end system that is connected via an IPv4 network whose L3 protocol is IPv6.
    Defined by: ,PATH=*VIA-TUNNEL(...)
