openNet Server (BS2000) in the system environment

&pagelevel(4)&pagelevel

The figure below provides an overview of the transport system interfaces of BCAM and how BCAM is embedded in the system environment of BS2000.

openNet Server (BS2000) in the system environment

openNet Server offers the following transport system interfaces:

  • SOCKETS
Interface for the TCP/IP transport service.
The Sockets interface Version 2.0 and higher permits communication in accordance with the IPv6 conventions (RFC 2553).

  • ICMX (Communication Manager for Unix platforms)
In BS2000: program-to-program communication interface for the ISO transport service

  • IDCAM (Data Communication Access Method)
Program-to-terminal or program-to-program communication for the ISO and NEA transport services

  • ITIAM (Terminal Interactive Access Method)
Interfaces for interactive input/output for communication in interactive mode

  • IKDCS (Compatible Data Communication System)
Interface for transaction-oriented applications with the functions for controlling messages, programs and transactions and also data management functions. IKDCS is not part of openNet Server.

When the communication partner is a terminal or a terminal emulation program, services and functions of Virtual Terminal Support (VTSU) are also available. VTSU is used for logical support of terminals and terminal printers.

The product XHCS supports extended international standards for compatible fonts which can consequently also be communicated between systems. XHCS stands for an end-toend concept for character handling in BS2000. XHCS permits various fonts and encodings which can be switched between dynamically and provides all components which perform character processing with central mechanisms for identifying and interpreting the current font. XHCS supports ISO (7-bit and 8-bit), EBCDIC and Unicode fonts.

openNet Server also supports IPSec, which uses CRYPT to support a range of security mechanisms.

LWRESD (Light Weight RESolver Daemon) implements a central DNS Resolver port for BCAM and SOCKETS-BS2000. POSIX-SOCKETS is indirectly connected to the DNS Resolver port via the SOCKETS-BS2000 subsystem. The program is based on the BIND product and has been ported to BS2000. You can thus obtain information from a DNS server.
