Overview of the generation types

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

Before use, each BCAM host in a computer network must be adapted to its working environment. In BCAM, this process is known as generation. For this purpose, the system environment, i.e. the network configuration, for each system in the communications network is described.

The system is thus provided with information on

  • its position in the network

  • its network connections

  • the accessible partner systems

Information on the network configuration enables the system to receive, send, or forward data. Configuration is the process of specifying the physical and logical properties of lines, networks, and systems, as well as the addresses of communication partners. This information is stored in BCAM tables.
