After a certain number of mount operations, the MTC devices must be cleaned. For cleaning use the special “cleaning cartridges”.
The cleaning cartridges must be contained at storage locations in the partition of the archive system which is controlled by the ROBAR-SV instance; they must therefore have been imported. Cleaning cartridges must have a valid barcode label which begins with CLN
. ROBAR recognizes a cleaning cartridge by means of this and uses it to clean MTC devices.
Cleaning takes place only when it is explicitly requested by the device controller concerned (“cleaning on request”), i.e. ROBAR only initiates the cleaning process if a BS2000 message EXC0858
with error code CLRQ
(Clean Request) was issued. Only MTC devices which incorporate this function are permitted in the archive system.
If an error occurs during the cleaning operations, processing of the job is canceled and the system branches to the RCLN
error exit (see the table in section "Structure of the entries" in chapter "File message_xref").
The storage locations for cleaning cartridges which are provided in Scalar i500 are not used.
Cleaning cartridges may not be mounted manually.
The MANUAL
menu consequently contains no command for mounting a cleaning cartridge. In the roboter_cmds
file you may not modify the line with the code RC004
.
Replacing cleaning cartridges
A cleaning cartridge must be replaced by a new one after a given number of cleaning operations. The end of a cleaning cartridge’s service life is determined by BS2000 and reported to ROBAR by means of the message NJT0031
.
The export of an expired cleaning cartridge is initiated by ROBAR.
The operator is notified by ROBAR so that he/she can import a new cleaning cartridge into the archive. The following message is output on the BS2000 console:
ROB4047 EXPIRED CLEANING CARTRIDGE EJECTED: INSERT NEW ONE
New cleaning cartridges are integrated into the archive system using the ROBAR-CL-SDF statement IMPORT-ROBAR-VOLUME
, see section "Importing cartridges".
