After a CPU pool has been created, VM groups (SU /390) or VMs which are not members of any VM group can be assigned to this CPU pool.
The VM2000 administrator assigns VMs and VM groups to a CPU pool when the VM (see "Initializing a VM") or VM group is initialized (using /CREATE-VM-GROUP
(with the CPU-POOL-NAME
operand)).
/CREATE-
or /MODIFY-VM-DEFINITION
can be used to enter the assignment of a VM to a CPU pool in its VM definition. Detailed information can be found in the section "Working with VM definitions".After the VM or VM group has been created the VM2000 administrator can assign it to another CPU pool during ongoing operation using /ASSIGN-VM-(GROUP-)TO-CPU-POOL
. The VM’s or VM group’s CPU quota must be reset in the process.
Note on scheduling
The VMs and VM groups which are assigned to a CPU pool are started only on the real CPUs from this CPU pool. The VM’s or VM group’s CPU quota determines the CPU share of the CPU capacity in the CPU pool, see "Planning distribution of the CPU capacity to the VMs".
