The openSM2 monitoring system (abbreviated to: SM2) provides the user with statistical data on the performance of the DP system and the utilization of resources. SM2 records measurement values and outputs them to the data display terminal and/or to a file. Output to the data display terminal is suitable for real-time monitoring (online). When the data is output to a file, the stored measurement values can be analyzed at a later stage (offline).
The following explanations are limited to the multiprocessor-specific aspects of SM2. A detailed description can be found in the manual "openSM2" 14 (Related publications).
In the MSCF network, SM2 provides functions for central online monitoring and control of monitored data acquisition. Since the internal structure of the monitored data depends to a high degree on the software version used, the SM2 network functionality can only be used with identical SM2 versions. Exchanging monitored data between different SM2 versions is not possible.
The monitored data is recorded independently on each processor in the network by a local SM2 performance monitor and is exchanged between the processors via the MSCF connections. In this way, the online reports of all processors can be output on any processor in the network.
There are also reports which combine all the measurement values of the various processors.
All control statements for monitored data acquisition (change of monitoring cycle, switch of monitoring programs, etc.) can be entered on each processor for all processors in the network.
