Working with foreign tapes

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

Three tapes of the type TAPE-U5 have arrived and are to be loaded into the archive system with the location AML001. The files of the tapes are to be read in under the user ID TSOS. They are entered in the MAREN catalog by means of the following statement:

//import-foreign-volume volume=(swn050,swn051,swn052),user-id=tsos,device-type=tape-u5
//modify-volume-attributes volume=*interval(from=swn050,to=swn052),location=*par(home-loc=aml001)

As soon as the tape are loaded into the archive system, the location AML001 is entered as TEMPORARY-LOCATION.

Once the contents of the tapes have been copied to local tapes, the other tapes are to be sent back:

//export-volume vol=*int(swn050,swn051,swn052),exp-addr='remote Data Center'

This statement causes the archive system to unload the tapes and delete the catalog entries from the MAREN catalog. The tapes can be taken from the input/output unit and sent back.
