Automatic free volume allocation with MARENUCP

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

If the location for an archive system is contained in the location table (when MARENUCP is started), MARENUCP reserves all tapes requested from the pool of tapes with the attributes HOME-LOCATION=<archivsystem_location>, FREE-LOCATION= <archivsystem_location>, TEMP-LOCATION=<archivsystem_location>.

If several archive systems are used, the location which is first in the location table is taken as the standard location (e.g. “ROBOLOC1”).

In a mixed mode, with manually operated cartridge devices and/or with several archive systems, the MAREN administrator must specify via a reservation file (see section “Location management via a reservation file”) or in the computer center MAREN exit routine MARENEX1 (see "Reserve-request exit MARENEX1"), whether another storage location  should be used instead of the default.

If a MAREN exit routine is used, the following points should be borne in mind:

  • In the catalog entry passed to the data center exit routine, the default location “ROBOLOC1” is preset for the HOMELOC catalog entry field.

  • If a tape from the manual archive is to be used, a different location must be entered (e.g. “CENTRAL”).

  • If a tape from a different archive system is to be used, the name of its storage location must be used (e.g. “VTLSLOC”).

After the reservation, the archive system is requested to mount the tape.
