The term MAREN user is the generic term for the nonprivileged MAREN user and the privileged MAREN user (MAREN administrator).
MAREN user
The MAREN user works on a user ID which has the privilege STD-PROCESSING. He/She reserves free tapes and manages the tapes which are reserved in the MAREN catalog for his/her user ID with the user program MAREN.

MAREN administrator
The MAREN administrator works on a user ID which has the privilege TAPE-ADMINISTRATION. They are consequently authorized to perform the administration tasks of MAREN. He/She works mainly with the statements of the MARENADM administrator program.
Some tasks additionally require a particular user ID or the operator role which is entered in the system-specific MAREN parameters is also required for some tasks. The default is the operator role SYSMAREN.
When domains are used, the administrator role is split into two further roles:
- Domain Administrator (DA);
- All-Domain Administrator (ADA).
