MT9750 print functions

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

MT9750 emulates the "Bypass" and "Hard copy" print functions on the 9750. You can also use the Windows Copy function to copy the selected content of the session window to the local printer.

Bypass printing

Bypass printing is the output of host data on printers connected to data display terminals. This is normally done using the BS2000 spool system Remote Spool Output (RSO). The data is output on the printer connected to the data display terminal without being displayed on the screen. Bypass printing via the emulation gives you the option of saving the print data in one or more files.

Bypass printing is carried out “transparently”, which means that the print data from host printer and local (Windows-) printer are of the same format.

Hard copy

Hard copy refers to printing of parts of the entire current session window.

The hard copy size (number of rows and columns) is not based on the size of the visible screen section in the current session but on the actual number of rows and columns in the session and the position of the cursor.

The print output is local on the printer connected to the PC, with the option of printing to file.

Hard copies can be produced in two ways:

  • Manually by pressing a hard copy key or by executing a corresponding function in the context menu (right-click).

Printing is initiated using an LAx key.

  • Programmed by sending a corresponding control sequence

The programmed hard copy is initiated by the BS2000 computer. The message transmitted is displayed on the data display terminal and, when completely transmitted, the printout is generated or routed to a file.

In both cases, the keyboard is blocked until printing is complete, i.e. no keyboard input is possible.

Full page hard copy (PS)

MT9750 can print out the entire screen content regardless of the cursor position, or save it to a file.

This form of hard copy is not initiated using an LAx key but by selecting Session: Print Screen in the menu or clicking on the printer icon in the toolbar.

Copying to the printer

Copying screen data to a printer is an extension of the print options compared to a 9750 data display terminal.

Data within the session window is referred to as screen data. Selecting Edit > Mark or Edit > Select All in the menu allows you to select either some or all of the screen data and then copy it to the local printer. The data that is visible and printable is copied. Invisible or nonprintable characters are displayed as spaces. Copying to a file or to the clipboard is also possible.
