On the MT9750 terminal, frequently used or long keyboard entries can be assigned to function keys and retrieved as often as required. If a programmable key is pressed, this has the same effect as entering the corresponding characters and keys directly using the keyboard. MT9750 supports this host function.
Up to 20 keys (P1 to P20) can be assigned. These Px keys are assigned to the function keys on the PC keyboard, e.g. the [P1]
key is mapped to the [F1]
function key on the standard PC keyboard.
The assignment of Px and Px’ keys can be displayed in a separate window by selecting Settings > Keyboard Mappings > Keyboard Mappings in the menu.
The Px keys can be pressed using the Function Keys P1-P20 toolbar. For details of showing, hiding and customizing the toolbars, see the Settings > Toolbars > ... or Settings > Toolbars > Customize menu.
P keys are always defined for a specific session, i.e. they are valid during the session in which they were defined (and saved).
Mapping of the P keys is initially only temporary, for the duration of the active session.
Save the session to permanently link the current P key mappings to this session. The current mapping is saved in a file with the file extension .MTK.
If you exit the session without saving the P key mapping, all settings for the P keys made during this session will be lost.
Host applications (e.g. the BS2000 program PLUS) can overwrite the mapping of the programmable keys. In this case, the indicator H in the status bar tells you that the mapping of the (default) P keys has changed.
After closing the session, the session saving dialog opens automatically to save the new key mapping of Px' keys.
Custom P keys (Px’) are not affected.
Custom P keys (Px’)
In addition to the P keys known to the host, MT9750 contains a memory area for recording up to 20 further P key assignments, known as custom P keys (P1’ to P20’). This memory area cannot be overwritten by host applications and thus makes it possible to use host applications that change the mapping of the P keys while simultaneously having access to a custom key mapping.
The custom P keys are assigned, displayed, and used in the same way as the normal P keys, but they are known as Px’ keys. The apostrophe indicates that the key is a custom P key.
Mapping of P keys
P keys are mapped by recording during input or by editing previously saved P keys (regardless of the data input in the session window). Two methods are available:
The P key editor: Utilities > Programmable Keys Edit in the menu
Recording P keys: Utilities > Record Programmable Key > Start/Stop in the menu
