Duplicate Address Detection IPv6 (DAD)

&pagelevel(4)&pagelevel

The process for Duplicate Address Detection is a component part of the core of the IPv6 implementation. It uses the IPv6 basic mechanisms "Neighbor Solicitation" and "Advertisement" messages to detect address conflicts. These messages and their use for Duplicate Address Detection are described in RFC4861 and RFC4862.

In addition, the process is to be applied to all unicast addresses.
The following cases are the exceptions here:

  • Duplicate detection is disabled.

  • An anycast address is concerned.

Addresses may be assigned to the line only when it has been recognized that they exist only once in the network which is operated. If this is not the case, the address may not be assigned to the line connection.

Information when a fault occurs

The two BCAM messages BCA08C7 and BCA08C9 are used to display conflict situations. The messages are output to the console.
