A hub is a connection device that physically connects workstations. It thus combines the workstations within a common network segment. The function of a hub belongs to the Physical Layer of the OSI Reference Model.
A hub regenerates electrical signals from transmitting workstations and also acts as a repeater. It is a shared device via which all current users – irrespective of their number – can share the available bandwidth.
