Switching routes when a line fails

&pagelevel(4)&pagelevel

When a switching operation takes place in a redundant configuration - i.e. at least 2 (VLAN) lines belong to a node - the local address of the failed line is temporarily taken over by the line which is still operational. You can have this displayed using the SHOW-LINE-ATTRIBUTES INF=*ADDRESS command.

Routes which were connected via the failed line are then switched to the line which is still active, which then takes over the local address of the failed line. In addition to its own local address, this line manages the failed line’s local address as long as this is necessary. The basic property of a route - the invariance of the address pair - is thus observed here and a switching operation is consequently permitted.

Switching the routes when a line fails

The original paths for the routes can no longer be used; own-addr2 is assigned to LINE1 after the switchover. This switching operation is initiated by the failed line LINE2.
