The real archive systems Scalar i500 and i6000 belong to the current product range of QUANTUM Corp. Detailed information can be found in the manufacturer’s documentation [15].
They are closed archive systems, connected via SAN (Storage Area Network) and Fibre Channel, which execute requests for mounting and dismounting cartridges fully automatically, as they do requests for archiving the cartridges. The archive systems can be extended on a variable basis.
The archive systems consist of the components cartridge storage system and input/output unit. An overview of the components is provided in figure 2.
The (real) MTC devices are operated by the robot and administered by the BS2000 systems. The MTC devices are reserved by the BS2000 systems. The BS2000 system has direct and exclusive access to the MTC device here.
These archive systems can also be administered directly in ROBAR operation over the Internet when the IP address is specified. The Scalar i6000 archive system can also be monitored and administered locally or remotely via the Library Management Console (LMC). The LMC is accessed remotely via the client instance of the Management Console (AMC).
ROBAR controls these archive systems via the SCSI interface, see "SCSI interface".
