Each real MTC device to be operated must be defined in the interface-specific ROBAR-SV configuration file (see "Interface-specific ROBAR-SV configuration files").
From the point of view of the BS2000 system, an MTC device is identified by its mnemonic device name and its device type. The following device types are supported by ROBAR at the SCSI interface:
BS2000 | Device feature | type | RRF_dir
Device type | Type code | in the configuration file
LTO-U4 | CE | 896-track MTC | TAPE-U4 | TYPE-1 |
LTO-U5 | CF | 1280-track MTC | TAPE-U5 | TYPE-1 |
LTO-U6 | D1 | 2176-track MTC | TAPE-U6 | TYPE-1 |
LTO-U7 1 | D2 | MBK 3584-Spur | TAPE-U7 | TYPE-1 |
Only the cartridges released for a specific MTC device type can be used.
Each device type is assigned an appropriate ROBAR rule file (see chapter "ROBAR rule files").
MTC device reservation by and allocation to the BS2000 systems is the responsibility of the BS2000 device management facility.
Further information is provided in section "Managing MTC devices".
