Required settings at the FC switches

FC switches of the manufacturer Broadcom® (Brocade®) are supported. Details concerning the supported switch models and fabric OS versions are described in the support matrix (see https://bs2manuals.ts.fujitsu.com/ > Fujitsu Server BS2000 > Server Connectivity > FC-Switch).

Details of the settings mentioned below can be found in the manufacturer's documentation „Brocade® Fabric OS® Administration Guide“.

The discovery of the properties and states of switches, fabrics and ports is carried out via SNMP. SNMPv1 and SNMPv3 are supported; we recommend to use SNMPv3. The FC zoning can only be determined via SNMPv3 or via CLI. If virtual fabrics and virtual switches are to be determined, also the SNMPv3 protocol has to be used.

  • To ensure that the required information is available, the following four MIBs (Management Information Base) have to be activated at the switches:
    • FA MIB („Fibre Alliance MIB”),
    • FE MIB („Fabric Element MIB”),
    • SW MIB („Switch MIB”)
    • Zoning MIB („T11-FC-ZONE-SERVER-MIB“) (for SNMPv3 only)
  • If access to a switch is controlled by an access control list, the IP address of the MU or a suitable address range has to be registered there.

For usage of the SNMPv3 protocol applies:

  • Security level 0 = „no security” has to be configured.
  • If virtual switches and fabrics are to be displayed, in addition to the SNMP user a CLI user of the same name is required, who has read access and the authorization for access to all virtual switches (logical fabric IDs). Its standard fabric ID should be that of the default fabric (128). Furthermore this user should own the „chassis role“ authorization, so that the information about hardware properties can be displayed completely.

To facilitate the automatic discovery of switches in a fabric, on each switch the configuration of an SNMP and CLI user of the same name is recommended.

For usage of the SNMPv1 protocol applies:

  • On each of the switches to be examined, a community name which allows read access to the SNMP database must be configured. For most of the switches the community name „public“ is defined by default. This default value is also used by FC networks. On SEM's Settings tab another community name can be configured.
  • For discovery of zoning data with SNMPv1, an additional CLI user account with read authorization and password is required. This also can be configured on the Settings tab.
