Commands not allowed during a VM Migration

For a VM that is currently being migrated, no actions may be initiated or modifications of the resources performed on either the source or target SU. Consequently some commands are rejected or only partially executed:

  • The following VM2000 commands for the VM concerned are rejected with the message VMS3042:

    • /ADD-VM-DEVICES, /REMOVE-VM-DEVICES and /SWITCH-VM-DEVICES (FORCE=*NO)

    • /ADD-VM-TO-VM-GROUP and /REMOVE-VM-FROM-VM-GROUP (SU /390)

    • /ASSIGN-VM-TO-CPU-POOL

    • /ASSIGN-VM-GROUP-TO-CPU-POOL
      (SU /390, if a VM of the VM group is being migrated)

    • /DELETE-VM (CHECK-VM-STATE=*YES)

    • /EXTEND-VM-MEMORY, /REDUCE-VM-MEMORY

    • /HOLD-VM (SU /390)

    • /MODIFY-VM-ATTRIBUTES

    • /MOVE-VM (SU /390)

    • /RESET-VM

    • /SHUTDOWN-VM

    • /START-VM (CHECK-VM-STATE=*YES),
      on the target SU also /START-VM (CHECK-VM-STATE=*NO)

  • The following VM2000 commands are always rejected during VM Migration with the VMS3042 message:

    • /SAVE-VM-CONFIGURATION

    • /SHUTDOWN-VM VM-ID=*VM2000(...)

  • The following VM2000 commands are only partially executed during VM Migration and the message VMS3041 and command return code VMS9005 are output:

    • /DELETE-VM VM-ID=*ALL,CHECK-VM-STATE=*YES

    • /HOLD-VM VM-ID=*ALL (SU /390)

    • /SHUTDOWN-VM VM-ID=*VM-GUESTS

  • On SU /390, the dynamic I/O configuration modification with the /START-CONFIGURATION-UPDATE BS2000 command is generally rejected with the message NKR0197.
