When faults which last for some time occur on the network connections between various systems, it may be necessary to operate MAREN locally on each system. This situation is made evident by a console message generated via the specified batch jobs after the defined wait time has expired. For simultaneous operation of more than one local MAREN system, the following steps must be taken:
A copy of the MAREN catalog must to transported to each system.
Separate pools of free tapes must be created on all systems, in order to continue to make use of automatic free tape allocation. This can also be accomplished by means of appropriate exit routines, which must, of course, have been set up in advance as a precautionary measure.
By means of organizational measures, e.g. information via the MAREN bulletin, it must be ensured that each tape is being requested and processed by one and only one system.
After local MAREN operations are terminated, the MARENADM statement UPDATE-MAREN-CATALOG can be used to create a fully up-to-date MAREN catalog from all logging files.
