Changes since the last edition of the manual

&pagelevel(3)&pagelevel

The manual for VM2000 V12.0 describes the use of VM2000 on SE servers.

Compared to the last edition of the manual, VM2000 V11.5, the following important changes have been made:

  • VM2000 V12.0 is executable in a monitor system with BS2000 V21.0; guest systems BS2000 OSD/BC V10.0 are no more supported (see "Supported hardware and operating systems").
  • The version of BS2000 systems is not output by VM2000 information commands in form of a BS2000/OSD version (e.g. V11.0B) but in form of a BS2000 version (e.g. V20.0B).
  • All references to XenVMs, i.e. to Linux and Windows guest systems, were eliminated.
On SU x86, the carrier system X2000 supported the management of XenVMs via the SE Manager so far. XenVMs were unknown in VM2000 but they were regarded in the display of global resources under the keyword FOREIGN. The management of XenVMs is no longer supported within the current carrier systems, on which VM2000 V12.0 can run.
  • Default value *UNIQUE of the parameter SERVER-UNIT-NAME was introduced for VM2000 commands /CHECK-VM-MIGRATION, /MIGRATE-VM and /MIGRATE-VM-DEFINITION.
  • On SU x86, VM2000 commands /HOLD-VM and /RESUME-VM are rejected with message VMS3011 and command return code 0|64|VMS9004.
  • The obsolete device families *DISKETTE, *EXOTIC and *UNMTAPE cannot be specified any longer.
  • Regarding "Parallel Access Volume (PAV, SU /390)", the support of function "FastDPAV" under VM2000 is described.
  • In the section "VM2000 in the guest systems", the new BS2000 command /MODIFY-IO-OPTIONS and its effects in the VM2000 operation are described.

Incompatibilities in the VM2000 information commands

There are following incompatible changes in the output of the VM2000 information commands:

  • The BS2000 version (instead of the BS2000/OSD version) is output to the SYSOUT and to the S variable GUEST-VERSION with commands /SHOW-VM-ATTRIBUTES and /SHOW-VM-RESOURCES. Furthermore, string „BS2000“ (instead of „BS2-OSD“) is output to the S variable GUEST-TYPE.
  • The parameter INFORMATION of commands /SHOW-VM-ATTRIBUTES and /SHOW-VM-RESOURCES does not support the value “*GS” any more.
    The S variables PART-ID, GS-ATTR, GS-MODE, GS-STA, GS-SIZE (VM specific) and GS-SIZE (global configuration) were eliminated entirely.
  • The S variables PATH-GROUP-ID-MODE, NUM-OF-VIRT-CPUS and REAL-MIN-MEM-SIZE were eliminated from the output of command /SHOW-VM-RESOURCES INFORMATION=*CONFIGURATION .
  • The parameter INFORMATION of commands /SHOW-VM-RESOURCES and /SHOW-VM-DEVICE-STATUS does not support the value “*HA-CLUSTER” any more.

Additional changes in the manual VM2000 V12.0B compared to VM2000 V12.0A
  • The main memory of a VM on SU x86 must be at least 1024 Mbytes in size.
  • Elimination of Symmetrix disk storage systems (no support any more).
  • Updates of command return codes and examples.
